Hepatitis

Hepatitis A

  • Incubation period: 1-2 weeks?
  • Vaccination
    • Ideally two vaccinations six months apart
    • Children vaccinated between 12-13 months of age
  • Immunoglobulin
    • HAV Immunoglobulin considered for houshold contacts of patients with acute hepatitis A.
      • When administered within 2 weeks, 80-90% effective.
      • When administered later, may not prevent HAV, but can attenuate symptoms.

Hepatitis B

  • Incubation period: 2-3 months
  • Window period: check core IgM and HBsAg
